for taking the time with us and not only selling my daughter her first vehicle but making your first sale. My daughter ended buying her first vehicle from Robert who was professional, courteous, respectful and just a very nice pleasant person to work with. We ended up having a great experience, which I was not expecting since we were ignored by two previous salesman. We were greeted by a very nice young man by the name of Robert Y. One of the vehicles sent my daughter liked so on Saturday 9/16 we went to AutoNation Dodge anyway to look and test drive the vehicle. Bobby then NEVER sent any information and was never heard from again. I communicated by text and email and he said he would send some other vehicles that may work for my daughter. He then passed us to a salesman by the name of Bobby. We had a friend refer us to a salesman by the name of Jordan. ![]() When I get there, the salesperson informs me the sales manager is going to add a markup to the sales price. I drove 1.5 hours to this dealership ready to purchase the vehicle. I knew I found a hot car and that I got very lucky finding it so I looked at their website several times, looked at the Sticker Price several times, read dealer notes, called and spoke to a sales person and knew I needed to move on it quickly so I left work early. ![]() Usually I have a found that a dealership will post their markup and dealer add-ons on their website, add it to the sticker price, or note it in the dealer options on the Kia website or their own website, basically not hide the fact they are going to overcharge you simply because they were the lucky dealership to get a hot car. Having been in this post-pandemic, chip shortage, car-buying experience for a while now, I have spent endless hours looking at dealerships, cars, sticker prices, markups, dealer add-ons, etc. You can tell a lot about a business by how they operate during difficult times and from all the dealerships I have spoken too, Southwest Kia of Rockwall, was by far, one of the greediest of them all. Located in Rockwall, TX / 322 miles away from Lafayette, LA ![]() Once we are 100% sure on the shape, Henry will start framing so we can get it hung and have it ready for the drywall crew. So I’m excited to see this project get underway. The kitchen range hood has always been my favorite part of the kitchen. It’s a subtle difference at first glance, but I think it can change the overall look. You’ll notice on this one, that the sides are tapered at the top instead of going straight up. ![]() We’re 90% sure the look you see above is what we’ll be going with, but there are other shapes we like as well: like this one by Jami Lancaster Design Design: Jami Lancaster Design This is by Parkes & Lamb Interiors and it seems to have more similar proportions to our design so far. It’s not overpowering and adds just the right amount of texture. You can also see the subtle color and sheen variations of the venetian plaster. I love how sleek the hood looks in this kitchen by Macallan Homes. When it’s all said and done, here is what the plaster vent hood should look like: Design by: Macallan Homes Then a coat of special adhesive will be applied to allow the plaster to stick. We’ll make sure to document the process and post a full tutorial.Īs of now, the plan is to frame the hood out of wood and cover it in sheetrock. Th difficult part of taking on this project is that there is no info online about how to build a plaster hood, but when we’re finished, there will be. The sides will go straight up, and there will be a subtle swoop in the front. Our design is aimed to keep things as clean and simple as possible. They seem to flow right into the walls and ceiling. This may take a little bit of patience and trial/error, but it’s worth it To get the bend in the drywall for the front. ![]() These cuts will go about halfway through the boards to allow for the wood to bend slightly. Here is a 3D model of the framing so far and what it should look like when it’s covered.Īs I mentioned earlier, what we love about plaster hoods is how clean and minimal they look. Now, in order to get a curve down the front of the range hood, you’ll want to make cuts in the support pieces and drywall pieces. Our hood insert is 21″ x 46″, so it has to be designed and constructed around those dimensions. Henry has already started the initial design of the hood. In the meantime, here is where we’re at in the planning and design process, and of course a few inspirational pictures of plaster hoods. It should be a fun one and help us save a little money. Henry loves a good challenge and is determined to tackle this project. Call it a trend maybe, but if it is, it’s one trend I want to be part of! Therefore, there isn’t much need for people to know how to apply and work with plaster in todays home building or remodeling field. Plaster walls can be found in older home, but now it’s usually something home owners want to replace. Obviously, plaster is a material that isn’t commonly used today. The only problem we are having at this point is finding someone to actually do the plaster hood. We love the sleek modern aesthetic a plaster hood adds to a kitchen. This plaster hood is in the center of two large windows which creates a lot of visual interest in the space. Henry built a custom Venetian plaster hood with a curved profile for our kitchen. A well-designed range hood can even be the focal point. Henry and I are planning on doing a plaster hood in our new build kitchen. A range hood can also have a big visual impact on the design of your kitchen. ![]() Matthew Skiff is a vector illustrator living in Colorado. ![]() If you want both (realistically, you won't), you have to pay for both.īut there is some sense behind this. These are now being sold as two separate products. It does seem odd that Skylum should first launch Luminar as a standalone photo-editor, then add in digital asset management (DAM) tools in Luminar 3, and THEN launch a separate Luminar Flex program that works like the ‘old' Luminar. It's a powerful photo-editing application in its own right, that's just as useful for in-depth image enhancement and adjustments as it is for instant Looks. Luminar Flex may look like a quick-fix and special effects tool, but it's actually a lot deeper than that. The only limitation is that if you go back to edit a layer part way down the stack, the layers above are temporarily disabled while you work. These include a manual masking brush, gradient and radial masks. These are not just adjustment layers, for applying adjustments non-destructively, but image layers too, so you can combine images in multi-layer montages, with control over the layer opacity and blend mode (just like Photoshop) and with layer masks too. Luminar has a crop tool, noise reduction, and a retouching/erase option for removing sensor spots and unwanted objects in the scene.Įven more impressive is its support for layers. It can open and process RAW files via its RAW Develop filter, and this includes automatic and manual lens corrections, and transform tools for correcting converging verticals and other perspective problems. Luminar Flex isn't just a tool for adding filters and effects – it goes a lot further than that. In fact, Flex users can download a free Flex Toolbox Looks Pack from the Flex Community site. Luminar Flex comes with a wide selection of Looks in different categories and you can download more from the Skylum site. You can adjust these in the main tools panel on the right, add or remove filters and create your own custom Looks very easily. Each Look uses a specific combination of Filters and settings. You can use these or make your own.īut there's an even quicker way to apply a very specific image ‘look', and that's with Luminar Looks (or presets, if you like). ![]() ![]() Luminar Flex comes with a selection of preconfigured Workspaces for different genres of photography. If you find yourself using the same set of filters again and again, you can combine them in a custom Workspace. ![]() Each filter has its own adjustments – some simple, some sophisticated – and you can even use masking tools to restrict the filter effect to specific areas of the picture. Instead, it uses a large number of Filters which can be applied individually or in combination. Luminar Flex offers a large selection of tools and effects, but not in a fixed system of panels and palettes like other programs. Programs such as Luminar, Aurora HDR, and Photolemur allow photographers to create works of art. Skylum has a fantastic catalog of photo editing software. Update 2020: Luminar Flex is now part of the latest Luminar 4 (it comes with a LR Plugin). How to get/download Luminar: Save $10/£10 with coupon code 'LAWTON'.If you thought Skylum took a wrong turn with Luminar 3 with Libraries, with Luminar Flex it's back on track. In every other respect, Luminar Flex is powerful, innovative and very affordable. If you don't like the bundled Looks, you can always create your own or download more. It doesn't have the built-in digital asset management (DAM) of its Luminar 3 stablemate, but it integrates much better with an established workflow. Luminar Flex is the latest version of the ‘old' Luminar, and a terrific standalone photo editor and plug-in. ![]() Just like the hinge, this felt very similar to a product I use everyday, my 2021 Macbook Pro. ![]() The rest of the product is plated with a cohesive matte-aluminum design. The charging surfaces feature a rubberized matte finish which indicate the charging locations and ensure your device does not slip off those chargers. The device features a singular power button as well as LED battery indicators. The design and materials of this wireless charger stand are high-quality and placed with intention. In fact, it reminded me of the premium hinge quality of my 2021 Macbook Pro. I never felt that the hinge wasn’t strong enough to hold my phone and encounter frequent use. It’s fully adjustable and goes up to about 75 degrees. Clearly, Satechi felt the same way when designing this product because the hinge on this stand is solid. Speaking of hinges, there’s nothing worse than a cheap hinge that feels like if you’re not careful you’ll break it. The wireless charging stand has a hinge design that allows you to wirelessly charge your phone and underneath charge your favorite pair of wireless earbuds (which for me continue to be the Apple AirPods Pro 2). From the unboxing, it was apparent who Satechi’s target market was, Apple fans. This wireless charger fits perfectly alongside my desk’s Space Gray/Black assorted palette of the 2021 Macbook Pro, iPhone 14 Pro and 2020 iPad Pro. At first glance I noticed Satechi’s gray color closely resembles Apple’s ‘Space Gray’ color. I’ve been running the Peak Design Mobile case and with its pronounced camera lip, found it actually charged flawlessly in the landscape position as shown below.Satechi is known for their sleek, subtle, minimalist designed productivity devices and that’s exactly what you get with their new product, Duo Wireless Charger Power Stand. If your case doesn’t have a camera lip you might have a better chance at laying flat with the charging coil centered. It will, but it has to be precisely laid with the lowest camera resting on the aluminum perimeter ridge around the charging surface, which doesn’t sound like a good practice for your camera lens. The iPhone 14 doesn’t like charging in portrait orientation on this charger. Zens claims that it will work on Qi compatible devices up to 3mm thick. ![]() Similarly, some of the cases I run have large camera bezels that protrude even further, exacerbating that same issue. The iPhone 14 Pro camera sticks out quite a bit meaning the phone doesn’t lay flat on the charger in some orientations. The main reason that phones are tricky comes down to protruding cameras lenses and cases. ![]() Phones are not quite as straight forward however. Smaller devices like AirPods are pretty easy to place, especially newer versions that chime as charging starts. Two circular locating graphics help in alignment. This just worked with every band I threw at it.Īs for the two surface Qi locations, they also charged any device placed on top. If you have a metal link band that isn’t possible and if the charger is sideways (nightstand mode) sometimes the weight is enough that it will pull the watch out of place. I mention this mainly because if you’ve run a closed loop band then you know that flat chargers make that impossible or you have to flip the band inside out. The Apple Watch charger worked really well.
![]() When the Data Encryption Standard algorithm, also known as the DES algorithm, was formed and standardized, it made sense for that generation of computers. In the process, we'll learn about some use cases for bit manipulation in the real world. Why Was the AES Encryption Algorithm necessary? In the next lesson, we'll learn more about bit manipulation, including JavaScript operators for manipulating bits. Note that we have to put parentheses around the number or the parser will get confused and throw the following error: Uncaught Synta圎rror: Invalid or unexpected token. Because the binary number system is base 2, we can convert a decimal number to binary like this: > (34).toString(2) This method turns a number to its string equivalent - but we can also specify an optional base as an argument. We can also convert any number into its binary equivalent with the () method. This will allow us to explore use cases for bitwise manipulation in the next lesson. ![]() Now that we know the basics of bits and bytes and have also covered the basics of the binary number system, let's look at some methods we can use with binary numbers. Terabyte: 1024 gigabytes (approximately one trillion bytes).Gigabyte: 1024 megabytes (approximately one billion bytes).Megabyte: 1024 kilobytes (approximately one million bytes).Kilobyte: 1024 bits (approximately 1000 bytes). Here's how they all correspond to each other: Sometimes we might even talk in terms of terabytes. We now tend to measure things in terms of megabytes (say, a music file) and gigabytes (the storage space in our hard drive). Of course, processing power is much more advanced now. It's not because 255 is a nice-sounding number - it's because that is the total number of permutations of rupees that can be stored in a single byte (ranging from 0 to 255) - and back then, game systems did not have the processing power that they do now. For example, in the original Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System, you can only have up to 255 rupees, the currency of the game. Also, if you've ever played an old Nintendo video game, the max value of a stat or thing you can hold is often 255. It's no coincidence that there are 255 characters represented in the extended set of ASCII character codes. A byte consists of 256 different combinations if you include the number 00000000 - all the binary numbers between 0000001111.Ī single byte is an excellent option for storing characters. In general, for each bit we add to a sequence, we have double the number of total possible permutations:Ī group of eight bits put together is known as a byte. Fortunately, a computer can look at lots of transistors all at once in order to count.Įach 0 or 1 in a sequence of binary code is a bit. If we want to extend the metaphor, we can think of a transistor as having two fingers - it can only count to two. Some cultures (such as the Mayans) even had a base 20 system (counting on both fingers and toes). If we all had 8 fingers, we'd likely use the octal system, and if we had 12, we'd probably use the duodecimal system. Humans most likely use a decimal system because we (usually) have ten fingers to count on. The 1 represents the on state while the 0 represents the off state. Why does a computer use binary language? Well, at the very deepest level, a computer's processing power consists of billions of transistors that have only two states: on and off. When we get to the number 1, we have to add a new digit and start over. The binary number system is base 2, which means it only uses two digits: 0 and 1. The same pattern happens when we switch from 99 to 100, 999 to 1000, and so on. To get to the next number, we add an extra digit to the beginning and start over. When we are counting up, we hit the end of these digits when we reach 9. Humans generally use the decimal number system, though. For example, an uppercase A translates to 01000001 in binary code. Computers use the binary number system, but what exactly does that mean? At this point, we should all recognize a number that's using the binary number system - it's just a series of zeroes and ones. ![]() What are some benefits of administering a drug enterally?
